Make an Orli without a kit
An Orli is a little friend with feelings, just like us. You can make one from almost anything. Here are four ways to start.
Choose what to make it from
-
Paper
Scrunch, fold or roll a sheet into a shape.
-
A sock
Roll it up into a soft, round body.
-
A pebble
Pick a smooth one. It’s ready to decorate.
-
Play dough
Squash and roll it into any shape you like.
Then make your Orli
-
Gather
Choose what your Orli will be made from, with your grown-up. Or draw one instead.
-
Make
Squash, roll, scrunch or fold it into a body. Any shape is fine.
-
Decorate
Add eyes, a mouth and a little extra that feels like you. Your Orli can look however you want.
-
Name
Choose a name, or leave it for later. Say it, whisper it, write it or keep it to yourself.
For grown-ups
- Adults prepare anything with small parts, such as googly eyes or pom-poms.
- Check for allergies first, including the ingredients in play dough.
- Choose materials that suit your group and any support plans, and stay with children while they make.
- Drawing an Orli, holding a familiar soft toy or just watching are all good ways to join in.
- Touching, naming and sharing are always optional. Allow 5 to 15 minutes.
